The 53rd Directors’ Fortnight Poster

The image, by photographer and filmmaker Daniel Mercadante, is part of his series “The Enchanted Forest”, and was created through a process that combines long exposure photography, light projection, and juxtapositions.

The artist “paints” the trees with the coloured light of handheld flashlights and, using long exposure techniques, explores the temporal dimension that photography shares with cinema. The wide spectrum of colours reflects the richness and diversity of contemporary cinema which will be, once again, at the heart of the Directors’ Fortnight selection.

The 53rd Directors’ Fortnight edition will be held in Cannes from 7 to 17 July 2021.
